Oooh, look at this Gurewitch envelope

Cartoon stamp collecting slides into envelopes and other postage history sometimes - check out this envelope that Nicholas Gurewitch sent Nick Abadzis.

Illustration of a cartoon stamp

Here's an illustration of a cartoon stamp on anthrax by Geoffrey Grahn from the New York Times October 13, 2008. It illustrated an editorial by Lawrence M. Wein - "Neither Snow, Nor Rain, Nor Anthrax..."

These type of illustrations interest me. I know of a few others ... Dark Horse Comics uses one on their monthly email, Christopher Bing has done one and Richard Thompson has some on one of the books he illustrated. A cool collection would be to buy up all the originals, hey?

1951 fundraising stamps by Rowland Emett

Chris Brown wrote to me about Rowland Emett, a British cartoonist, for another project, but when I checked out his website, I found 4 fundraising stamps related to a 1951 Festival of Britain, and the one I've stuck up here on the right actually shows one of the cartoonist's train creations! Three are on this page.

Check out Emett's other drawings too especially the Christmas cards. They're lovely.

Boy, I love the internet.

New stamps from Sweden

Just in time for the new year, a package arrived with a beautiful set of stamps by the Swedish Post Office, issued in september of this year. It features art by eight contemporary Swedish cartoonists (Martin Kellerman, Charlie Christensen, Cecilia Torudd, Ulf Lundkvist, Joakim Pirinen, Lars Mortimer, Asa Ekström and Nina Hemmingsson) for a total value of 44 Kr. A nice package.
